We are about to face that situation here with M and R planning a week’s vacation at Goa. Fortunately, M’s sister runs a pet boarding home where Chutki can be boarded. As I write this, R has taken her there to be acclimatised.

    well………..
    since I RUN a boarding kennel…
but I know what you meant.
AND most kennels aren’t run by crazy animal loving fanatics like me.

Last week a filthy little Yorkie came in with curled nails and eyes almost glued shut with eye gunk.
The owner said to me that she needed to get him an appointment with a dog groomer. (Ya think?)
So after the owner left I had one of the vet techs give him a “courtesy” nail trim and then I set him in the sink and pressed warm wet washcloths on his face until it soften the eye gunk enough to get the gunk off with a little comb.
When I finished I gave him TWO baths until the water run clear.
After watching him the first day and noticing how he would tumble and tip as he walked, I took him into Doc and asked him to “just take a look” because I felt as though the owner didn’t care. Doc ended up giving the little guy a free chiro adjustment.
Needless to say, that’s not the norm, but owners frequently comment to me that they say my name to their dogs and they run to the door to go!
So… yes, if your dog gives you sad eyes, then maybe find a DIFFERENT kennel where they don’t react to it that way.
(You knew I’d leave a LONG comment on this one! LOL!)

I know you don’t like to hear it. it embarrasses you.
      but you’re an ANGEL.
do you know how many people would not even “bother” ?
too bad that little fellow has to be returned to the owners.
actually… that amounts to abuse to me.

I love the long comment! Kaitlin and Torben used to take Sammy and first Banshee (long departed) then Montana to a kennel run by Dave the Dog guy. Sammy loved him, but then that didn’t work because of Sammy’s throat operation — they couldn’t take the chance that someone would forget and put a collar instead of a harness on him. Now they have pet sitters come when they travel without the pups.

It’s important, and I can understand why your pups love you. ๐Ÿ™‚

PS I agree with tammy about you being an angel for the dogs!

  3. Wish all kennel owners were like you, Cindi! As for the sad eyes, I’ve experienced this many times with my children’s dogsโ€”they can really twang the heart!

  4. Cathy in NZ says:

when I had animals – first whiff of a holiday – and they simply disappeared…so we never packed until they had been “packed off to their holiday home” – of course as they saw the cages, they would bolt for the then locked door and scream all the way to their destination…

    No angel here.
