It Isn’t Summer Yet

Andy took this picture Sunday. The fellows who planned to drive in past the brown gate ended up walking instead.

Today was supposed to be sunny and fairly warm. Instead up there the temperature started above freezing and dropped throughout the day. There was also a howling wind and blowing snow.

The warmer temperature when Andy got up there meant there was water over the icy road, so at one point the Jeep slipped off the road and got stuck. No problem, Andy has a winch on the front of the Jeep so he can pull himself out. The process did take a bit longer than usual — he had trouble getting out of the car because the snow was so deep on the driver’s side it was hard to open the door. Then when he tried unspooling the winch cable he slipped and fell once, sliding partially under the Jeep. Outside of that the process worked fine.

It isn’t summer yet.

It’s great that a lot of the west has had a good snow year. Most people don’t know how important that can be for water supplies.

Our weather has been strange this year: one long cold spell with just enough snow to cover the ground and roads, then roller-coaster weather with warm followed by cold, repeatedly. Today, it’ll be warm enough to have all of the windows in the house open. Then, Wednesday, we’ll have the heat on and the weekend will see highs in the mid 60s.

We expected precipitation last winter and spring because of El Nino, but it didn’t happen. They didn’t predict it this year and it did. Even though it’s a nuisance at times, we’re happy to have it.

A friend from the East Coast of the USA told me on the phone that this year there has been no snow so far there though big snow storms are expected and they are making preparations for it.

no snow or deep stuff or even ice…but suddenly summer arrived the w/end before the school summer holidays finished. it’s been quite humid overnight as well (not today a bit of rain/overcast) – the humidity annoys me, as I wake intermittently – putting on sheet/light blanket – throwing off said stuff – repeat!
