More importantly, things were as bad in 1971 as they are today! Nothing has changed in our politics anywhere.

I think they have changed some, but they have been as grim in the past as they are now, so it helps put things in perspective.

or… judging from the hatred displayed by the uprising in Virginia today…
people haven’t changed either. whether politicians or not. it’s like we might as well be in the past ages of bigotry facism and violence of those eras.
probably from as far back as written history. it’s always something.
it’s all still there. just boiling beneath the surface. I suppose it will be until the last human leaves the planet. and what? then takes their hatred for each other to the next sphere to ruin life there?
    totally disgusted in human kind.
    sing on john. sing on.

Human nature in action. We’ve been too successful as a species, which is all that nature cares about. My bet is still that the cockroaches will outlast us. Is that really that much less disgusting? 😉

We left the U.S. in 1971 and lived for many years in Switzerland. Came back in 1985.
We enjoyed the best years ever in Europe, which ended with the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.

    • Jean says:

What did you do there? We were in France in 1965, were back in 1966.

I made several business trips to Europe in the 1980’s and enjoyed them, but I imagine things have changed a lot since then.

  4. We’re still reeling from the displays of hatred and violence in Virginia we witnessed on TV yesterday. It will always exist in humanity, I’m afraid. If it isn’t allowed to explode, it just resides in the hearts and minds of bigoted people—for centuries it appears. Active, or latent, it’s always there. How disturbing.

same but different – possibly with the advent of the world wide instant communication – some might say gratification that you get from “telling the world” whatever…(insert whatever word/phrase you need in whatever)
