Too Much Rain, and Wind!

Texas is bracing for potentially catastrophic flooding and winds as Hurricane Harvey intensified Thursday and cruised toward a late Friday impact near Corpus Christi.

The National Hurricane Center described Harvey’s sudden strengthening as “astounding.” The storm is expected to strike as a Category 3 hurricane — meaning with winds greater than 111 miles per hour — making it the most powerful storm to make landfall in the United States since Hurricane Wilma in 2005.

From CBS News last night:

Beate and Tim live in Corpus Christi and have already evacuated. Fingers crossed for everyone.

  1. Frightening for you to have friends in the center of the storm! You will be watching this closely—hope they are safe.

I’m assuming they are safe because they’ve already evacuated. Our main concern is about their home. They’ve already had to rebuild their summer place after the 2011 fire, and that was bad enough.

    • Jean says:

I should have said rebuild and replant. They planted over 1000 evergreens, and as I recall, about 200 have survived.

Today is the first day of our Ganesh Festival and while the day had intermittent showers, as I write this late in the evening, it is raining heavily. No storms but the tail end of the monsoon here seems to be stronger than usual.

There have been other stories that are very disturbing. For instance:
