A Civics Lesson

But you know the saddest thing, because I’m the President of the United States I am not supposed to be involved with the Justice Department. I am not supposed to be involved with the FBI. I’m not supposed to be doing the kinds of things that I would love to be doing. And I’m very frustrated by it.
Donald J. Trump to Larry O’Connor

It makes me wonder when they stopped teaching civics classes about the Constitutional separation of powers, designed to prevent tyranny. Trump isn’t that much younger than I am.

It wasn’t needed to get elected, and he’s getting all the adulation he wants on his Asia tour, so why bother? He was hired to tear things down, not to preserve the system.

There is a lot of variability in the quality of the teaching and the quality of the students across this country. I agree with you regarding Trump’s understanding of the constitution, but would go further and claim that the inability to understand the constitution or process the concept of “rule of law” goes far beyond Trump and would include a significant number of teachers, professors and judges, while modern Ethics teaching is that the constitution and “rule of law” are a product of white racism and to be ignored whenever it conflicts with intentions.
