Pitbulls are a vastly misunderstood breed.

I know and love many Pitbulls.
Many MANY of my friends have them.
They are wonderful loving misunderstood dogs.
I will never ever own one.
I have too many little dogs and some are kinda snotty and they might provoke a large dog and with their powerful jaws, that would be it.
I’d have a dead little dog.
Also, you can’t just move anywhere with a Pitbull.
Many of the cities around here have a ban on them.
Not my city, which last year broke up a dog fighting ring that involved 60 Pitbull dogs.
And… there’s the fact that I had an incident at work with one that was out of control and jumping and biting at me and he was so strong I couldn’t control him and he left me very bruised and quite shaken. I’ve never felt powerless like that before. Luckily I wasn’t alone and we got him back into a kennel by blasting him back with a hose. I called the owner and his father came for him. He has a big strong man and as he tried to leash him up, the dog gauged him in the face. Yep… they can be wonderful dogs but not for people who are uneducated on the breed.
    Sorry, I’m such a downer.

That’s not being a downer, that’s sharing your experience. They are strong. One of the volunteers at our rescue support group made the mistake years ago of going into the back yard of a fellow who was fostering two pit bulls from Katrina, and they attacked her. She was going to check on them, but that wasn’t a good idea and she had to be rescued by some neighbors. The interesting thing is she is highly experienced with dogs and even does search and rescue with them.

On the other hand, recently a man on an airplane had to have plastic surgery when a comfort dog in the seat next to him attacked his face. The dog was a retriever or some such breed that is supposed to be friendly with people.

  5. they have a bad reputation here in NZ…
