Smiling Pups

I received an email from Kaitlin yesterday:

Subject: For the first time ever…

I asked Tempi to smile, and she did. Pic below.

Kaitlin also sent this picture of Sammy:

It reminds me of one of the pups at the animal shelter years ago. One of the other volunteers said the pup would be hard to get adopted because she was chubby and unattractive. Say what? She was a bit shy at first, not unusual for someone left at the shelter, but she was sweet. So I taught her how to smile. She picked it up right away and would just beam when she saw me. Needless to say, she was quickly adopted. It was years ago and she wasn’t at the shelter very long, so I don’t even remember her name. But I sure do remember that smile.

  1. gorgeous – love the spring bonnet on Sammy – I suspect it wouldn’t have lasted as a bonnet on Tempi…

i have known lots of dogs who smile! (actually other animals too)
but i didn’t know you can teach them to smile! how did you do it?
i thought it’s just something wonderful they do on their own.
i love these pictures! Tempi is a person in a little fur coat!
and darling Sammy will put up with anything and find JOY in it!!!
they are my sages. well. maybe just Sammy is. LOL!
Tempi is a totally free soul and more of a princess than a sage. 🙂 XOXO

Sammy’s my hero and role model. 😀

I just gave the pup big smiles when I talked to her enthusiastically and praised her when she did it too.
