    i don’t know why.
but i have never cared for that song nor for Woody Guthrie.
rather odd. but there it is!

I don’t like the Woody Guthrie version, but that’s what the cartoon was about. I like the Pete Seeger version:

This land is your land, this land is my land
From the California to the New York island
From the Redwood Forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me
As I went walking that ribbon of highway
I saw above me that endless skyway
And saw below me that golden valley
This land was made for you and me
I roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me, a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me
When the sun comes shining, then I was strolling
In the wheat fields waving and dust clouds rolling
The voice was chanting as the fog was lifting
This land was made for you and me

  2. had heard of the tune, but not the singer…sounds folksy to me. As for the cartoon, yep – not just your land but many other lands…

Scientists have also concluded that The Times They Aren’t Necessarily A-Changing, and It Ain’t Necessarily All Over Now, Babe.

I’m not keen on This Land Is Your Land either. A bit too sickly sentimental for my taste.

    • Jean says:

I sometimes like sticky sentimental. ๐Ÿ˜€ I also think things really are
a-changing, and fast. We live in a fascinating time.

  4. Cindi says:

    This land is my land…
As long as I pay my property taxes…
And the government doesnโ€™t need it to build something through it.

There is a saying in Hindi that translates to “The buffalo belongs to the fellow with the staff.” I think that everyone should read Taleb’s Skin In The Game to understand this phenomenon. https://medium.com/incerto/the-most-intolerant-wins-the-dictatorship-of-the-small-minority-3f1f83ce4e15

Interesting article, but I think Guthrie was talking about how the rich and powerful have control. Do you think your article has anything to do with colonialism in the past?
