Beautiful Response

Trump is starting to revoke the security clearance of peple who publicly criticize him, and retired admiral William McRaven responded beautifully in this open letter:

Dear Mr. President:

Former CIA director John Brennan, whose security clearance you revoked on Wednesday, is one of the finest public servants I have ever known. Few Americans have done more to protect this country than John. He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who don’t know him.

Therefore, I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency.

Like most Americans, I had hoped that when you became president, you would rise to the occasion and become the leader this great nation needs.

A good leader tries to embody the best qualities of his or her organization. A good leader sets the example for others to follow. A good leader always puts the welfare of others before himself or herself.

Your leadership, however, has shown little of these qualities. Through your actions, you have embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and, worst of all, divided us as a nation.

If you think for a moment that your McCarthy-era tactics will suppress the voices of criticism, you are sadly mistaken. The criticism will continue until you become the leader we prayed you would be.

Amen to that.

Many of us were hoping having a leader who could run our country as a business would be a good thing. I guess we should have taken a closer look at his businesses. (No, I didn’t vote for him but, once he was elected, I chose to hope.)

how about amen to just simply impeachment.
the man hasn’t an ounce of integrity in him! it only seems to be getting worse.
can we endure a possible 8 years of him? the scary thing to me are the people who seem to think he can do no wrong! oh my. heaven help us.

      I don’t know Monk.
      delete one of these comments.
the first one never showed so I wrote another.
now the first one is showing! good grief Charlie Brown!

We’ll just have to see how the midterms go. His supporters are in the minority, but they vote so they have a lot of clout.

  3. tammy j says:

who knew the swamp he was going to be draining would be those with integrity?
the thought of 8 years of his brand of chaos is alarming. heaven help us.
what’s scary are those who are still thinking he’s the answer to it all! and will vote him in again!

    • Jean says:

Given his track record it was unlikely he would drain the swamp — he’s actually normalizing corruption. He may eventually go too far, plus we’ll have to see if his opposition can get out the vote in the midterm elections.

  4. tammy – Tr*** read your first reply and he is still trying to decide if you should be shipped or served 🙂

A brilliant letter. I like his invitation to Trump to revoke his security clearance as well.

A very powerful letter indeed. I however doubt that it will have any impact on the addressee.

  7. Cindi says:

    I’m hoping for Joe Biden.
    He’s not Hilary.
He’s a good honest compassionate man.
I understand why he didn’t run before,
but he’s got to next election.

    • Jean says:

I think Joe could have won in 2016 since a lot of people voted against Clinton. I’m not so sure that he could do it in 2020 because the political landscape has changed so much.

      I agree that he’s a decent man.

  8. What a beautiful letter, Jean! So glad you posted it——otherwise, I would have missed it!
