Time For a Trade In?

I drew this cartoon a few years ago when I was having a series of health problems. It helped a lot to laugh.

I remembered it now because it’s finally time to trade in our 1988 Jeep Cherokee. We’ve had two large repair bills, plus a long towing, in the past few months. So we’re concerned about its reliability up in the mountains this winter. As you can see, we keep things as long as possible.

I’m glad my husband feels this way. I would hate it if he decided to trade me in for a newer model. 😉

What about you? Do you go for the “new and improved” models, or do you try to keep things going as long as possible?

Thanks to gaelikaa, Mike, Grannymar, bikehikebabe, Cathy and Rummuser for commenting on last week’s post.

      Looney,
That’s great that your wife is so perfect. I want a guy who won’t trade me in even though I’ve never been/never will be perfect. 😉

No plans to trade in – the advantage over a car is that we grow and change.

Well that is one fear I don’t have. Being alone I cannot be traded for a younger newer model! 😀 As for my car, it might be ten years old but it works and serves me well.

Our cars- a 1987 Camry & 1989 Nissan. The Camry was going great, but someone smashed into it, so we replaced it with a Prius. The 1989 4 w drive Nissan we only drive to ski or our cabin.
When you buy something new, what do you do with the old one?

  5. Mike Goad says:

We buy new, but tend to keep our vehicles for a long, long time. Of the last 4 we got rid of, only one was a trade-in. Two of the others were donated to charity and the last was totaled in an accident.

Our house, on the other hand, is an oldie but goodie — built c.1932.

I had a 1988 car too till last year when I finally sold it as parking space with my son’s car and my daughter in law’s car was getting to be a problem. Have not regretted it one bit as I now go everywhere by our local three wheeler autorickshaw cabs or walk.

    I haven’t got a car!

My last one was driven into the ground and then it was sent to the wreckers because it had bad senility!

I can’t afford to buy one let alone run one…we have all sorts of add-on taxes and checkups up here.

As for me…I had to trade in (revamp) the early 90s model as it had grown bigger when it was in ill-mode! I am now a much slimmed down model – still have some curves but they look like curves not just a blobby sort of curve 🙂

Last night I was out with some people and one of the females suggested we should go to the beach over the Summer as my body would look great in bikini….oops I don’t think it’s all that great – I am actually not a beach lover other than walking on it!

    Evan,
“…the advantage over a car is that we grow and change.” I agree with that, but it is true that our poor old bodies can need major repairs as we get older. Just ask Grannymar and especially bikehikebabe.

    bikehikebabe,
We usually trade in our old car when we get a new one. By that time it’s on its last legs and we don’t want to have to worry about disposing of it.

    Mike,
We tend to buy new too. We want to make sure it gets treated well throughout its life.

    Rummuser,
For years we didn’t have taxis here in town but we do have some buses now. It’s nice not having to rely on a car. Going up to the mountains is another matter, of course.

    Cathy,
It sounds as if you have a good transportation system.

You must feel good about the compliment you received. No one would suggest that I wear a bikini. 😉

Sorry I missed this post, Jean. The last week’s been crazy! As the manager of the health centre I go always says, “Ma’am, you have to maintain!”
