This morning Andy and Orlando went up to assess what needs to be done on the roads — they figure the work will take two weekends. Roadwork is costing us a lot more than we anticipated this year, but we’re still thankful for the rain. As I’ve said, this was the first real rainy season we’ve had in years, and we’ve missed them.
Not only that, the rain has helped cover some of the burned areas with new vegetation.
This picture was taken May 4, 2012:
And this one, of the same area, was taken yesterday, August 17, 2013:
That’s encouraging, because the more vegetation in the burned areas, the less flash flooding there will be to wash away the roads. The adventure continues.
Any adventure in your life lately?
Love the green!
If I had the expense of having workmen come from afar to redo the washed-out roads, I’d be gnashing my teeth. 🙁 For you it’s just part of the adventure. 😀 Kudos to you!
Thank you. It was a shock when the rain ruined a lot of the work the second time. But when Andy came home and told me about it, I was enjoying the rain we had just had down here. I told him I wasn’t going to let the road ruin it for me. He agreed, and we decided we would just wait and see if the road kept passable until after the rainy season was over. If it did we would deal with the mess then.
We joked for years that we never had to worry about flooding up in the mountains. That’ll teach us!
Not really. Just coping with the usual at the moment.
It could be a lot worse! I hope you’re enjoying at least part of it.
that is just beautiful!
i’m so glad you’ve had rain this year. we have too. i thought if that dang drought lasted much longer i’d go crazy.
well.
crazier than i am.
which is saying something.
i heard it was 111 yesterday in phoenix. and they said their humidity was higher than normal. goodness! our heat ‘index’ got up to 111 recently. so can’t imagine what the index felt like with a temp at 111 already! i would melt. too hot. not for this senior!
