This was the second time we took Amtrak to Chicago, and both times we reserved a bedroom. It was small, but it had a little sink, a toilet/shower room, an armchair and couch, a small closet, etc. It made the trip a lot more pleasant.
Dimensions
Room: 6’6″ x 7’6″
Lower Berth: 3’4″ x 6’3″
Upper Berth with Ladder: 2’4″ x 6’2″
If you’re curious, a kid made a video tour of a bedroom. He did all right. It’s not professional, but it would have been helpful to us before our first trip.
It never occurred to me to use my iPad to make a little video, even though I had seen a woman walking, talking, and carrying her laptop pointing away from herself — she was using her mobile hotspot and Skype to give her grandson a tour of the train. I thought that was neat, too. Life is full of little adventures!
Any little adventures in your life lately?
train travel here is not like that – but then again, train tracks are becoming a rarity here…some once popular tracks are no longer running. Whilst others in the South Island continue to chug along, probably helped by tourists…
Amtrak doesn’t own the rails it uses, freight companies do. That means they have top priority. I’ll talk about this more in a future post.
Wow! If we had such facilities in our trains, I will stop flying.
No, no adventures worth writing about. Life is very placid. Tomorrow promises some excitement and if it pans out, you will read about it in my blog post.
I’m looking forward to your post!
Watched the video. SUPER!!!
I was most interested in catching glimpses of the teen doing the room tour, since I don’t have my own grandsons here to watch.
Tom & I had a room on a train but nowhere near that complete. Another room on a train going to NYC with my mother I remember. Not sure about others. I also remember going from East coast to NM with the 4 kids, newborn Lydia in a picnic basket. We slept on the floor at our seats. Very interesting trip.
That must have been some trip! I can imagine doing something like that when I was a lot younger, but not now.
I think most of our rail tracks and roads are owned by some type of gov’t entity – as are the trains but I’m really sure…it’s not really something that rocks my boat 🙂
We never thought about the matter until we had to wait for some freight trains. 🙂
