Autumn in the Mountains

Andy says he now has three weeks worth of wood. The pile on the right doesn’t look bigger, but it’s now three layers deep instead of two.

And the tomatoes on the windowsill are ripening.

Joe, our contractor, came up yesterday to cut some firewood for himself — he’s the third person to do that so far this fall — and Andy has ordered the parts he needs to fix the snow plow. He may be able to keep the roads open if the snow isn’t too deep.

      For only 768 square feet the cottage does have a presence. We keep saying it turned out a lot better than we deserved. Mostly we don’t pay much attention to houses, and we had a lot of decisions to make.
