Winter Is Here

I had to brush the snow and scrape the ice off the car before I could go to the Y yesterday. And Andy pulled some fellows out of a ditch before he plowed. Then he burned the two piles of branches he had gathered.

It’s here, too. No frozen precipitation, yet, but it’s 22°F this morning, second period of below freezing temperatures this year. We have a 50% chance of snow and sleet over night and tomorrow, with little or no accumulation.

It’s TOO early for this kind of weather here.

This isn’t unusual for around here. In the old days we used to have to snowshoe in sometime around Thanksgiving. When do you usually get your cold weather?

    • Mike says:

The coldest weather usually isn’t until late December through the end of January, though it sometimes lasts later. Sometimes, we have very few days below freezing. During the first several years that we were in Arkansas, Lake Dardanelle froze over several times. That hasn’t happened in a while.

    wow.
with the road closed now to the cabin . . . i hope you had a chance to winterize it. or whatever you need to do to safeguard the plumbing pipes etc.
does that mean they’ll keep it closed all winter?
i must say though . . . what beautiful pictures!
it has finally quit sleeting here now and light fine flakes are falling.
our western part of the state and panhandle has already up to 9 inches! not that much expected here of course. we’ll be lucky to get 1 inch probably. but i’ll take it!

    • Jean says:

The road isn’t closed yet. And they’ll still keep another way open, but it’s a longer drive. We have a propane heater in the living room that keeps it at 60 degrees, so the pipes should be fine even if we eventually get snowed out.

Good luck on getting some snow. Sleet and ice can be treacherous. Here walking gets tricky in spots because of the ice.

Won’t be here for a while yet.

    Hope you are all weathertight

    the opposite here…

apparently Auckland registered a 26.9 C which was only ever recorded in 1959! A record equalised…

every few days they state some tropical rain is going to arrive, but I haven’t seen it…whether it means we are in for a long hot summer remains to be seen. Won’t be good if we don’t get some decent rain etc.

I LOVE bright colors, especially reds. So I love your fire pictures. Amazing how hot they burn & without catching onto the dried grass covered with snow.
