I don’t have a cell phone, but one would come in handy if I encountered these University of Oregon students:
I must say, I would be nervous getting out of the car while they were around. What about you?

I think that the students knew that it was a teacher of some kind who would not mind the little high spiritedness. It does not seem to be a ragging kind of a situation.
I agree about the high spiritedness, but I’m not sure the driver was so happy.
The driver was a retired Professor from the University of Oregon and he did not appreciate the harassment. University of Oregon and police officials were investigating to determine if any criminal charges would be warranted. The professor, from what I hear, is not interested in pressing charges.
I shared this on Facebook a couple of days ago and the reactions were mixed. One fellow didn’t think there was anything wrong with any of it. Others thought some of the students should be charged with harassment or possibly even assault. One person thought that they should be suspended from school.
Things like this might be hilarious in a campus comedy movie, but it is not funny to be assaulted in real life with wet, cold snow if you are not a participant in the “fun” — and a hard-packed snowball could cause serious injury.
At a minimum the most egregious participants in this snow assault should be identified and reprimanded by school authorities, in my opinion.
I agree! I didn’t think the video was funny. Thanks for the extra information.
I agree with Mike, those students involved should be identified and reprimanded. I notice most of them were male, predictably enough. It seems clear to me that the driver wasn’t amused and was probably upset and shocked and not sure what to do. He obviously wouldn’t appreciate snow being dumped all over his windscreen so he couldn’t see out of it. Typical group behaviour that gets out of hand because they’re all egging each other on.
I don’t think the students should be suspended, but they should get some sort of reprimand so they’re not apt to do it again. If they want a snowball fight, do it with others who think it’s fun.
i frankly see nothing funny nor high spirited about it.
i see a mob.
the kind of mob that can easily turn into a bad situation with just one little ignition by some fool. the man was not young and would have no defense if they decided to jump him.
i’m tired of college age people acting like 12 year olds.
i say “grow up.”
I’m a lot older and smaller that the man in the video. I wouldn’t trust the kids enough to get out of the car. I think the students were being high-spirited, but they weren’t showing much sense.
I’m with Tammy
Yep, I would have called on my cellphone for “help” which would disperse them rapidly – a siren would do it…and policeman in uniform.
I suppose one person, thought it was funny, then they all joined it as the targets were easy “meat”
Last year when I came out of a lecture, I found a whole lot of students “marching” in the street, I was pronto out of there; walked downtown and got the train home instead of trying to get a bus nearby….
Andy and I are with you. If we see a crowd, we walk the other way.
