A Great Start

I spent most of yesterday working on Ronald Coleman’s A Christmas Carol.

Andy and I recorded the 70-year-old records to digital New Year’s Eve, and I was able to remove a lot of the noise using Audacity, open-source audio software. The quality wasn’t nearly as good as the CDs, of course, so yesterday I started taking the extra pieces from the original version and putting them into the CD version. I still have a lot more to do, but it isn’t turning out too badly. I told Andy it was an early Christmas present, so I have plenty of time.

It was also a family time via the internet. Both Kaitlin and my sister sent pictures, and my sister phoned for a chat.

The pups were happy to have Kaitlin and Torben at home, of course:

And the weather there was certainly different than the sunshine here!

All in all it was a great start to 2014 here. What was it like for you?

Nice and warm here yesterday — all the way up to just above the average for January 1st. I was able to get some work done outside on a project, but that’s going to be more difficult for a while as temperatures have taken a dive and look to be staying low for a while.

I slept through the night except for a few minutes at midnight due to the fireworks and woke up as usual for another usual day.

We don’t have fireworks here. Midnight slipped by with Andy sleeping and me writing a blog post. I think that’s a great way to welcome in the new year.

we dropped into the deepfreeze overnight! winds 35 mph gusting to 45. poor little creatures out there in that. at least they can be dry. we didn’t get any ice with it.

    you are amazing monk.
what a wonderful thing to do for andy. a project of love! and well worth the effort.

i love the picture of montana and sammy. i hope sammy is feeling better. the extreme cold and snow doesn’t help old bones i’m sure.
they are such treasures there . . . all cozy on that bed! xoxo

I got several calendars lined up to mark Accountability, starting with Jan 1, for the exercises I want to do everyday, but didn’t, due to lack of Accountability.

My neighbour, J had a life changing experience a few weeks ago when his partner moved out – she later said to me “enough is enough” – and lots of things that happened recently moved me to “aha” – however J can’t understand why…

Well he is proving to me recently “one-why” and his drinking is getting more and more; nearly every night seems to be party with all kinds of different people gathering in his small yard; his stereo, his voice – is louder and is on much too long…

So of course on Dec 31st the “party” started around early evening and it finally stopped at 2am Jan 1! I cat napped from around 10pm and was pleased to get into realtime sleep at their shutdown time.

I can’t move bedrooms so I’m stuck almost 12′ from the scene…but I can have a nap during the day if need be. I’m my own boss and I’m not ruled by him or anyone else…I hope he “wakes” up though before the booze retailer wins!

In NZ we have two statutory holidays for Jan 1 and 2 – but that is only for some businesses; the retailers get into the next round of “sales” – the New Year Sales!

Whether the retailers see “a great start” is debatable because we seem to have “sales” all year round with only a short gap in one place which is completely covered by another offering xyz discount… Some of the sale prices come with small print of course, and many have caught out when it is not read!

Anyway enough of that “the new year is here” – I am looking forward to it in many ways that I previously believed possible 🙂

Nice. We took our niece to the beach. And a cool change arrived in the evening.
