How Many Believed That?

I want to be very clear: I will not sign on to any health plan that adds to our deficits over the next decade.
—President Obama, quoted by the New York Times July, 2009

How many people do you think believed that at the time? Do you think anyone believes it now?

According to a recent poll a majority of Americans think Obama is likable but indecisive and lacking honesty. Do you think any politician could be successful if he/she were completely honest?

I think way too many people believed it at the time. I am sure there are many who would believe it now or don’t particularly care.

Most politicians make promises that they are later unable to keep. That is reality. All too many make promises that they know they will not be able to keep. That is dishonest. However, unlike a lot of people, I do believe that there are some who are successful and who are inherently honest.

I have not found Obama to be likable since not very long after I voted for him in 2008.

I think there are still some good politicians that are trying. I also think there were more in the past, but they left because politics is so polarized now. It’s hard to get nominated unless you’re willing to appeal to the extreme left or right.

I doubt it. Politicians say what you want to hear & then you vote for them.
You don’t vote for a President because he’s LIKABLE.

No brainer. No. Not anywhere in the world.

Not under the current way of doing things.

If more transparency were introduced this might lead to a higher level of general honesty.

    • Jean says:

Yes, transparency would help a lot. At least modern communication prevents the past practice of saying different and opposing things to different audiences.
