Blog Browsing

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.
—John Lennon

I doubt John Lennon really said that last line when he was 5 years old, but I agree with the sentiment. I found it on Cindi’s blog, old black cat boo. I then clicked on the link to her art blog and to her Flickr account, then explored some of her links to other blogs — as well as following some links on those blogs. All in all a pleasant few hours.

I found this quote on Everything is better with Dog’s hair:

In order to enjoy a dog, one doesn’t merely try to train him to be semihuman. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog.

Well, yeah. Actually my inner bouncy puppy has never grown up, so I really don’t need to have a dog of my own. Visiting my favorite dog posts works just fine.

What about you? Do you ever go blog browsing? Do you agree with either of those quotes?

I often go ‘blog browsing’ or ‘blog surfing’ looking for bloggers who seem to have similar interest as myself. Of course reviewing the various blogs also gives insight into the many interests of the numerous other folks who have chosen blogging as a means of social interaction and exchange.

I tend to gravitate toward what I call the “liberal arts” blogger as compared to a blogger who is solely dedicated or consumed by one subject almost entirely.

My favorite blogs are the ones (1) where people share their thoughts and details of their lives, and (2) talk/share pictures of their dogs. So for me, it depends on what the subject is.

I do it all the time. Something in one blog post leads to another and yet another and so on as well as just going to a blog recommended by someone or something or the other.

    About understanding life, I wrote http://rummuser.com/?p=11895 .

Talking about dogs, in our home, Chutki talks to me but does not to either Ranjan or Manjiree. They were both puzzled about it till I explained it to them. “When she is with you, she thinks that she is human. When she is with me, she thinks that I am a dog.” I suspect that she enjoys both equations as do we.

I agree with both the quotes.

I haven’t been blog browsing much recently. I probably should do it a bit again. Any recommendations from anyone for good self development blogs?

That’s a subject I used to teach, but for me it’s only interesting if people go into detail about what’s going on in their lives, what they’re trying, how they’re making changes, etc. For obvious reasons most people don’t want to broadcast that to the whole internet.

Whoa! This post startled me! LOL!
and obviously I agree with both quotes.
Yeah, John Lennon might not have said the last line but you never know!
When my nieces were little they would say the most profound things, in fact it was scary. I’d look at them and think, have you been here before?
Well, there’s a whole new topic! LOL!
Anyway. Thanks for the shout out!
    I found your blog from Tammy’s and I found Tammy’s from Leslie’s.
I’ve had people in my life act very condescending about blogging, like it’s a waste of time.
I say nothing in response. I just shrug and change the subject. It’s better that way.
I mean I could tell them how much I adore my blog friends and how they come from all walks of life and how I’ve found them to able to make me laugh or feel encouraged or inspired after a long day. Something that I don’t often find in my “real” daily life.
Nope, they are mostly just insufferable arrogant bores.
So…. glad I found your blog!
    xo

I’m so glad we found one another too! I ignore people who put down my enthusiasms. That’s the beauty of the internet, we can find people who are interested in the same things we are.
