Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men
Couldn’t put Humpty together again.
Does anyone else think of Humpty Dumpty when they read/hear about Iraq and the rest of the Middle East?

What has been coming to my mind is a famous Sanskrit proverb that says – “Vinaash kaale vipreet buddhi” – meaning, when one’s destruction time is soon to arrive, one thinks unintelligently or negatively.
If, as I believe, we’re all a bunch of nuts, people usually think unintelligently.
Humpty Dumpty has been falling apart for much more than a century.
“By 1914 the Ottoman Empire had been driven out of nearly all of Europe and North Africa. It still controlled 28 million people, of whom 15.5 million were in modern-day Turkey, 4.5 million in Syria, Lebanon, Israel, and Jordan, and 2.5 million in Iraq. Another 5.5 million people were under nominal Ottoman rule in the Arabian peninsula.”
“In November 1914, the Empire entered World War I on the side of the Central Powers, in which it took part in the Middle Eastern theatre.”
“The Armistice of Mudros, signed on 30 October 1918, ended the hostilities in the Middle Eastern theatre, and was followed with occupation of Constantinople and subsequent partitioning of the Ottoman Empire. “
The peace agreement was a disaster. Have you read A Peace to End All Peace?
No I didn’t think of Humpty Dumpty but that analogy fits Iraq perfectly.
Yes, 🙂
one wonders how the american civil war would have been covered by world media if it had happened in the days of computers.
not so long ago we were fighting the germans and the japanese. and now people save their money to visit both countries as tourists … not to mention buy those countries’ goods.
time marches on. and sworn enemies become friends… then become enemies… then become friends…. and the world turns. just like the soap opera it is.
and hadn’t thought of humpty dumpty… but spot on monk!
I like the statement, “Countries don’t have friends, they have interests.” It makes more sense.
I agree, the world is sure changing fast. It’s hard to keep up with it!
