New Batteries

The new batteries are about four times bigger than the old ones, both physically and in storage capacity. Greg and Bernie worked late Wednesday evening and were able to put all of the new ones where they belong in the battery house. Greg hopes to come back tomorrow to wire them up. Then after the sun charges them up, we’ll have electricity in the house again.

Andy is now watching the weather — we may have a storm this weekend and Monday. He hopes the sun will come out soon.

  1. Rummuser says:

How do you charge them up there? From the regular electricity supply?

    • Jean says:

We mostly charge them from the photovoltaic panels. The only electricity we have up there is from the panels or from our backup generator. Andy will check to make sure the generator part of the system works.

some very diligent good workers you have there. it’s a pleasure to hear of them.
    it’s not the norm today!
    xo

We’ll have to see if Greg gets them hooked up today and if the sun comes out. Andy has waited so long for these new batteries that he can probably wait a few days if necessary. But it would be nice if he doesn’t have to.

This “cabin” Ha–small house is really swanky.

I hope that the sun shines too!!!! It’s a tough job living off the grid!

    • Jean says:

Of course, we’re not living up there. We live down here in an apartment, but Andy goes up every day. It’s a great project ad he loves it.

Hope the sun behaves itself for you.

  6. Cathy in NZ says:

well there you go…Andy has a retirement lifestyle that only a few would have on this magnitude and he enjoys it.

We may not understand it but it helps us expand our knowledge of how to semi-live off the grid when there is not grid to start with…

    • Jean says:

Yes, we were lucky to have good jobs and be able to save — he figures it’s harvest time now. His hobbies are too interesting not to share. 🙂
