Poor Congress, Poor Us

Poor Congress. It’s a perennial butt of jokes, and now Andy Borowitz says President Obama has signed an order that would convert the capitol building into housing for amnestied immigrants.

Signing the order in an Oval Office ceremony, the President said that American taxpayers would finally receive some value for a building that remains empty and unused for much of the year.

It will be a cause for celebration to see this building filled with people who are excited about making contributions to American society.

The problem is the parties are so polarized now that moderates don’t have a chance. They can’t win their parties’ primaries if they’re willing to work with the opposing party to do what they think is best for America.

Poor Congress. Poor us. At least a little bit of laughter is good for our health.

That reminds me of the fellow who jumped off the Empire State Building. As he passed the 8th floor someone asked, “How is it going?” He answered, “It’s going great so far!”

i keep trying to laugh about american politics. even world politics.
i know it would be better for my blood pressure!
    but alas . . .
even with truly funny and good ole’ andy borowitz . . . i have a hard time seeing humor in all those idiots’ behavior!
but i’m trying. as you say. humor is good for our health. 🙂

I keep thinking of Ashleigh Brilliant: “I feel much better now that I’ve given up hope.”

An office mate of mine used to say, “Cheer up, things are bound to get worse.”

Andy and I think we’re lucky to have been born when we did. It’s not all that bad being short timers. Being cheerful isn’t about being in denial, it’s about being defiant and resolutely looking at the good things in life.
