Andy has been stacking piles of slash, waiting for enough snow so he could safely burn. We did get precipitation, but strangely enough for this time of year, it was in the form of rain, not snow: 1.32″ in two days. It came down gently, so it all soaked in instead of washing out roads, thank goodness. He did have trouble getting his bonfire started, and he took these pictures from the covered porch because the rain was still coming down, but it all worked out fine.
Yay, Andy! Yay, rain!

Yay indeed!
WELL DONE!
and the pictures are beautiful.
what a contrast.
I agree!
Look at all that returning vegetation!! also, I wonder if the rain had something to do with the return of the pineapple express to CA? My diem was truly carped reading several of your latest posts, and I’ve renewed my intention to comment more often. In the meantime, I’m about to embark on the hurry scurry of the next phase of Christmas prep: the cards.
The grass is from the seeds that Andy has been sowing. We had some nice rains this past summer so the grass and weeds really thrived. We, too, love it!
There’s nothing like a good ‘campfire!!’ 🙂
When we first bought the land about 38 years ago we spent a lot of time hauling slash and building bonfires. It was fun, except for the singed hair and eyebrows when we got too close. 🙂
Way to go!!!! There’s been lots of forest cutting around here in past years so the Forest Service does the same thing as Andy when our snow gets deep enough.
That’s great that they’re reducing the fuel load. Our fire was so devastating because the forest was overgrown. We had thinned — to government specifications — five acres around the house and shed, but it didn’t help because the fire had crowned before it got to us.
fire ban is in place now – and, that includes garden garbage on the home front – but still people don’t heed the bans…
on the other hand on Sunday there was a serious accident on the main harbour bridge and there was a 20km gridlock back along the southern motorway – I was in town but I wasn’t anywhere near the gridlock…and by the time I came home, I think it had somewhat cleared…
Wow! That was some gridlock. I’m glad you escaped it.
