Last night bikehikebabe sent me this picture with the message,
This picture doesn’t do it justice. Also has moving parts & music, real Santa giving out candy canes.
Thank you! Our Christmas Eve tradition is to drive around looking at the lights, and this is our favorite part. That plus driving partway up the mountain to see if we can see some stars.
As we drive we listen to our favorite Christmas music, including carols in The Holly and the Ivy by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir,
Percy the Puny Poinsetta,
and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.
Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
Merry Christmas, everyone!

For us, Christmas Eve was last night. It’s been our tradition for years to take a tour to see the Christmas lights. Love to see how some really get into the swing of it all. Even our 24 year old son still comes along – we always have a laugh and a good time.
One road so congested – with much angst and beeping of horns from some angry dads – really, chill out man – that the police were called in to manage traffic control.
The neighbours must hate them…
Our favourite, which we always finish with, is a little local cul-de-sac, where the whole street gets involved (some more, some less) and is quite the spectacle. They even had Mr Whippy ice cream van there last night 🙂
Most people around here, except for the one fellow in the picture above, don’t get nearly that fancy. I imagine it spoils the atmosphere for people to be honking their horns and getting irritated.
No I personally do not. My many Christian friends do. All of them inevitably attend what is known here as the midnight mass. Both Catholics and Protestants do this. Christmas day is when the festival is really celebrated. You will find that almost all Hindus joining their Christian friends in this celebration.
I well remember midnight mass. How do they celebrate Christmas Day itself?
We always went to a short street near ours to see a Christmas Spectacular. His whole back yard was crowded with lighted scenes & paths to walk through. She had hot cookies & he had a big display of wooden toys that he made all year to give away. He was gone last year. Moved away. 🙁
That’s too bad! 🙁
We are about as low-key about holidays as anyone can be. But this year, Christmas is my dad’s 80th birthday so we had several big parties earlier this week!
Someday, we’ll spend Christmas like we do Thanksgiving – camped out in a remote part of the desert, enjoying Mother Nature’s glory.
Celebrating Christmas under the stars sounds perfect!
Congratulations to your father! Andy’s 80th will be next year. It doesn’t seem possible. How did that happen!
KB, from one “Christmas baby” to another, give your dad a belated Happy Birthday from me, too!
no particular traditions and as you know I changed my many decades of Christmas Day to be with the family – interesting…need to think about it some more before I say whether I will stay or go 🙂 next year
I’d love to hear more about it. I hope you managed to have some fun.
Morning service, family lunch, usually a very big affair and visits to elders in the family and friends. Generally partying the whole day.
