Before the fire and flash floods, the area around our house had trails and old roads that were great for walking. Now the walking is a lot more adventuresome.
Andy, Beate, and Tim have gone on a number of walks/hikes this summer, but I’m afraid most of my adventures have been down here on the internet. As usual,
Doing the best we can with what we have left.

I wouldn’t risk going walking along those paths!
Me neither!
GOOD GRIEF!
i’m with you.
my roaming days on that kind of terrain are memories!
🙂
😀
In all of our summer hikes near Andy’s house we haven’t met a single person.
Where else in commuting distance to work/town can you hike like that?
wow, so that means the forest took the adventurers and trampers elsewhere…giving you the forest to yourselves.
you would think the people who used to be there, might return to see how it had all fared…
Before the fire Andy was the main hiker up there. As I recall, he never met anyone else, except maybe Beate and Tim went on some?
I can however see the point why some adventurers might go elsewhere, more hazards and of course may be a lack of knowledge on how to get out of there, if someone should have a bad fall.
However, I guess for Andy, Beate & Tim [to some extent you CM] know how to deal with things if things go awry…
Are there any other dwellings/families who have rebuilt – how far are they from you all – or ???
Some people are starting to build down the hill near Beate and Tim. Also some on the mesa across the way.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, Beate. You know a lot more than I do.
It must be quite sad for you. We’ve talked about what we would do if our forest burned up… and we think we’d move someplace else. In fact, that has been our excuse for doing too little fire mitigation work! I admire you for staying and learning about the aftermath of a major fire. Perhaps some boy scout would like to earn a badge by building you some nice new trails!
We bought the land in 1976, so we’re loyal. We thought about moving elsewhere, but we figured it would take a couple of years to decide where and it made more sense to just start rebuilding and watch the regrowth. It was good for our mental health, especially Andy’s.
