This song has been going through my head off and on since last night when I listened to the PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) podcast, Why ‘Over the Rainbow’ takes us to a magical musical place. I enjoyed the explanation, but even more I enjoyed the delight of the fellow explaining how the song became so effective. I loved his delight and his desire to share that delight with everyone.
Find what you love to do and find a way to share it with others.
That’s a great motto in life, I think.

the other day…
i was ‘peeling the internet onion!’ …
you know…
how you begin one place and because it’s interesting… it leads you to another and another…
i listened in total AWE. as a little five year old girl sang that song…
over the rainbow.
no music.
she just stood there and sang it in perfect pitch with the clearest little voice.
it moved me to tears.
and your motto…
is wonderful.
XO
I love exploring the internet too. 🙂 Is this the girl?
YES!!!!
that’s her!!! she!!!
thanks.
i’m going to listen to her again. 🙂
The English song that does it for me is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTymtAbaG08
I have Tamil and Hindi songs that do the same for me.
One of my favorites is The Happy Wander:
oh rummy.
yes.
this song touches my heart like none other.
and i had even forgotten about it.
thank you.
just listened to it on your link and will have to listen again now. xo
This song had always hit a very deep chord with me.
Even when I was small, maybe more so then, it squeezed my heart.
The whole movie did.
Even now when I watch it, it makes me cry.
Maybe for different reasons than other people.
I was always upset that she didn’t stay in OZ.
I mean, once you’ve escaped, why go back?
Maybe it’s because my own childhood was under the shadow of many things that I don’t wish to think about today but…
and then to add to the fact, that my dog was taken from me.
Yep, crying now.
This song, this story, does me in every time.
It might be because the way it was written, but for me, I doubt that.
and actually…
someday, at my memorial I would like that song played.

I’ve included the video you reference:
I’m sorry your childhood was so bad. I desperately wanted a dog for a few years when I was a kid but was never allowed to have one. Having one I loved taken away would have been a lot worse.

Tiki Taane – use the lyrics and a tune – for a fundraiser…
the reason I know about it – is because one of my papers, my group put together presentation and then wrote a collective paper on it…etc.
I like that version too. 🙂
A great film and a great song. I also like “We’re off to see the wizard”. And I love it when they discover that this larger-than-life idealised character is just an ordinary person like themselves.
Would you believe I’ve never watched the Wizard of Oz all the way through? I have seen parts of it, and I do like the song We’re Off to See the Wizard. I’m going to have to see the part when they discover the truth about the wizard again.
