So true.
Even with advice.
A few years back a woman I worked with told me how she was maxing out her credit cards and cashing in her 401k savings to make ends meet. While I’m no expert, I offered to help her by looking over her expenses and seeing if I could help since I also live on the fence.
I found she had her dogs groomed monthly. I told her to have them shaved down 2 -3 times a year (she had 6 little dogs) and that would save her money.
She refused. She liked them fluffy.
I told her to drop Cable and get DVD’s from the library.
She refused. She needed to watch Bravo.
I told her to trade in her huge old truck that guzzled gas and go for something small.
She refused. She might need that truck to haul her horse in a trailer someday.
I didn’t even know she had a horse!
I asked about the horse, and she was paying to have it fed and boarded and yet only went out once a month to look at it but never rode it.
I stopped trying at that point.
(That poor horse)
Yep, some people just want to complain about their situation but they really don’t want help. Or if they are indeed given help, they squander it away.
Oops, sorry, I wrote a book here!
I guess this post hit a nerve here!
LOL!
I try to prune my budget and expenses from time to time – it works most of the time, and when it gets out of hand, I rework it – and I have levels I try to keep ahead of…
A remarkably human drama has been unfolding in our largest city in the South battered by rains and flood and there have been robin hoods and robbing hoods, recipients and goons and a totally inept government rapidly losing the respect of the people. The people by and large have rallied together to help each other with a great deal of help and assistance from others in other parts of the country and of course our armed forces.
I read about the floods, and I’m glad a lot of people are trying to help. Maybe in the next election they will throw the inept politicians out? Donald Trump would make a horrible president, but a lot of people think he’s a hero because they’re so fed up with the present supposed leaders.
Unfortunately some people will always abuse any help that’s offered them – or resist help altogether. I guess that’s why a lot of people tend to avoid offering help to strangers and concentrate on helping their family (though some of them may be equally wayward!).
The main thing is to offer some and try to see if it’s the best use of your time and money. Sometimes it is. The need in the world is so much bigger than our resources, so we do want to give wisely.
sad
I agree.
Unfortunately true, but a good reminder for the time of year!
I agree, it pays to try to give wisely.

Cindi,
I’ve known a lot of people like that. No sense wasting our breaths once the pattern is clear.
Cathy,
I think you’re doing a fantastic job with your life!
