The article the fellow was reading is clearly wrong — humans are the most efficient predators, and dogs were smart enough to realize it and align themselves with the humans. Giving soulful looks is a lot more effective than having to hunt your own prey. Which is no doubt why there are a lot more dogs in the world than there are alligators.
