It just goes to show how little I know. February 12 for me is still Lincoln’s Birthday because we celebrated it as a holiday when we were kids. Apparently Charles Darwin was born on the same day, February 12, 1809, and a lot of people celebrate today as Darwin Day. Are Andy and I the only ones who didn’t know that?

I didn’t know that either!
but then I didn’t know it was pizza day last week. LOLOL.
I’m going to have to look up all the special days. I imagine there are a lot of interesting ones!
I’ve always loved that image! Always wondered why it had to be a man! Happy Darwin’s Day and no, I didn’t know it either.
I like that image too. Never thought about it being a man — just goes to show how much has changed about attitudes toward women. In some parts of the world at least.
No, I didn’t know that, either. Of course, I live in the middle of creationism-must-get-equal-time Texas, so Darwin’s birthday would not be likely to be discussed or heralded “round these here parts.”
I thought of creationism when I wrote this post, so I wasn’t surprised by your comment. I just searched to see how prevalent is is and found this map. Tennessee and Louisiana are the worst states because they allow it to be taught in all public schools, not just charters: http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/science/2014/01/creationism_in_public_schools_mapped_where_tax_money_supports_alternatives.html
Thank you for your comment! I wouldn’t have bothered to look if you hadn’t written it.
had no idea either – a friend of mine “state-side” usually puts up the “days of…” whenever. there have some very entertaining ones as well…besides the usual type…
It sounds like most people here weren’t aware of it either. I will be aware of it now because of the association with Lincoln.
