Sigh! That’s way too true. NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has an Orbital Debris Program to deal with the littering problem. Here’s a computer simulation of just the debris they are tracking.

Humans have taken over the earth partly because of our ability to create and build. Unfortunately one of the things we create is a huge amount of junk.

  1. I recycle everything. But I worry, what happens the mountains of stuff recycled every day? Does it just end up in the landfill anyway?

    • Jean says:

I think a lot of it is reprocessed, but I don’t know how harmful that is to the environment. The big problem is there are too many of us.

  2. Rummuser says:

We separate wet and dry garbage and do everything else possible to achieve zero litter in our Housing Co-op as part of the keep the neighbourhood clean action plan of our suburb. All the homes are theoretically participating but litter still appears as though by magic!

  3. nick says:

It’s laughable that human beings consider themselves a superior species. When did you ever see a dog or squirrel or koala bear dumping toxic waste, chopping down a rain forest or bombing other animals? Or dropping litter and expecting someone else to clean it up?

  4. Cathy in NZ says:

one item that doesn’t appear to have a big recycling programme attached to it here is: car tires. Every so often I will wake up and find – usually across the road in front of a non car-tire business on the kerb/grassed area a huge pile of tires!

of course someone probably the council finally removes them…but if I could get my hands on the business doing that I would personally go put them over each body and leave them out to be an eyesore!! “Trapped in their own waste product”…

  5. Cindi says:

To be honest, I used to be hit and miss with recycling.
But just recently I had the city bring out the largest recycle bin available.
I think that now that I’ve finally decided to really clear the clutter, I need a big container!
As far as littering, I have never and never would.
