An 80-year-old man phoned 911 because he woke up bleeding on the floor with his arm in the jaws of Max, his adopted German shepherd. So he reported it as dog attack, figuring Max had turned on him.
The emergency personnel came and figured out the truth was completely different. The man had passed out from carbon monoxide poisoning when he got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. He had some claw marks on his face, so apparently Max had tried to paw the fellow’s face to wake him up, and when that didn’t work he grabbed the man’s arm and dragged him out of the bedroom and down the hall, saving the fellow’s life.
As usual, we can’t always believe everything we think.

I read a similar story last year,
that I won’t share hear because it’s too awful
except to say that they discover THAT dog saved the child’s life too.
Sadly it was after they had killed the dog.
Oh god, just thinking about it again has me crying.
You are so right, that we can’t believe what we think.
I hate when people are so quick to jump to conclusions
and also to always want to assume the worse.
No one wants to stay calm and listen and analyze
and maybe have a little empathy…
makes me want to never leave the house.
That’s so sad. I imagine the owners will never forgive themselves.
What an amazing story!
Yes.
I’ve had the occasion lately when I questioned my own conclusion about something and decided my first impression was wrong. It’s sometimes startling to hold a mirror up to yourself, isn’t it?
Hopefully we learn from those experiences. And it helps to know that we’re not the only ones who do it.
so moving. and a thoroughly good reminder.
there is the story of the cave man with a snarling look on his face… holding a club. he’s fierce and scary.
one thinks immediately how horrendously bad he is.
then the camera pans back and takes in the entire scene.
behind the caveman crouching in fear are his wife and child.
and in front of the cave man is a sabre toothed tiger.
he is now ferociously BRAVE. our judgment changes in an instant.
always or most usually extenuating circumstances.
Great story. Thanks!
A good story with a perfect reminder too!
I agree!
It’s a good thing to get the whole picture. Great story!
Thanks. 🙂
It reminds me of a police advert that ran here for a while. It showed a black man chasing a white man. The usual assumption would be that the white man was about to be mugged. In fact the black man was a police officer chasing the white mugger.
That’s a great example. Thanks!
