Do you or anyone you know use Siri, the Apple personal assistant? I have it on my iPads, but I’ve never used it because it would mean sending my questions and location to Apple for it to work.
One of the instructors for my exercise class uses hers. She sometimes has a hectic schedule, and one night when she was telling Siri about the next day she said, “Remind me to not lose my mind.” Sure enough, the next day Siri reminded her, “Don’t lose your mind.”
She thought that was funny, but a few years ago if someone said they wanted to jump off a bridge and die, Siri would give them a list of all the bridges nearby. Needless to say, Apple has has worked hard to change that. Now they try to have Siri look for signs of depression/potential self-harm and direct the person to a suicide hot line. Clearly some people rely on Siri as a friend, and with that trust comes a big responsibility for Apple. How times are changing.

Really? An App for a friend? I’m not surprised, but I’m afraid times are changing a bit too fast for me! I love the story about Siri listing the bridges. Machines do have limitations after all!
At least Apple recognized the problem and is trying to fix it.
I think they made a movie of a guy in love with his phone. or the voice on the phone like siri’s. I didn’t see it.
why we are becoming more and more dependent on technology instead of our own abilities and intuitions and feelings… a bit strange to me.
wow. just don’t know.
it’s a new world for sure. wish I could be here in a 100 years and see how it has progressed. maybe humans will be working for the machines!
The world is a lot more complicated than when we were kids — I for one love the access to information. I do miss it being less crowded.
Yes, the movie was “Her”.
I liked it as much as I could like a sad and lonely movie.
I have heard about Siri but apart from my computer which is a Mac, I have not gone to Apple yet. I do not know anyone who uses it either.
I think that the film that Tammy talks about is called Her. I saw the film on DVD and liked it but did not review it.
Thanks for the information about the movie. It sounds interesting.
how fun – funny – crazy – and whatever next!
sometimes Google directs you to funny sites that have nothing to do with your original search – I’m not referring to p*rn sites either, that seems to have been wheedled out as Apple has with “all the bridges in your area…”
I read an article today about a demolition company destroying a duplex because Google Maps sent them to the wrong place. One does need to be careful!
My best friend was just given the newest iPhone from her employer so that she can link up with them, get texts from them, do orders and take photos etc.
She barely knows how to do email or anything else computer related so it was a big scary deal for her.
Her husband is much the same.
So, the other night they were home watching some old Western on the movie channel and she told me that her husband said to her that he wondered if a particular actor was still alive.
So she picked up the phone and asked Siri and the voice told her that he was alive, his age and a few other details.
Her husband freaked and said “Where’s that voice coming from?!”
When she explained it to him, he who has hates most technology said to her “I love your phone!”
LOL!
Great story. Thank you. 🙂
