Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.
—Martin Luther
That quote reminds me of Andy, replanting his fruit trees after the fire, and carefully nurturing them even though at his age he might not get much fruit.
One of the pear trees died of fire blight, so yesterday he replaced it with an apricot tree. If that doesn’t work, he will try something else.
The equivalent for me is writing posts. If I knew the world would end tomorrow I would still write my daily post, even if no one would ever read it. I love browsing through articles and cartoons, seeing connections between them and my own experiences, and expressing part of that in writing and pictures.
What is your equivalent, if anything?
The quality of our lives depends on how we focus our energy and our attention.

I’m a true gardener. I know exactly how he feels! I’m still planting trees, and my neighbors just shake their heads. I know what they are thinking…
I’ll bet some of them admire you for it. 🙂
I would say that being in touch with my relatives and friends.
We’re lucky to have such rich lives, and the wit to appreciate them.
I would still come home and feed my pets and make them as comfortable as possible.
They’re lucky to have you.
I thought of andy and his trying to keep things growing when I read country magazine’s last issue.
there’s a solar life like owl in it that you can set around where you need it.
it glows realistically (? LOL) in the night and looks very real during the day.
says it keeps rodents and others away.
not sure what my equivalent is really.
I love my life. pretty much just day to day of all the myriad little things that make it worthwhile! I think I would still find it so even given other circumstances. XO
The fact you wouldn’t do anything “special” means you love your life already.
I don’t know if the owl would work. We were disappointed the lights in the truck and well house didn’t keep the rodents away. But I’m glad people are trying.
My equivalent is participating in RVing forums. Helping newbies figure out the things they need to know and do to enjoy traveling in their RV. Which includes way to minimize what they own.
BTW, I’m new to your blog and am loving it. Thanks for all the laughs and subjects for thought you’ve already given me.
Thank you for the comment. 🙂
Participating in RV forums is a great way to share what you love. There’s nothing like it.
I don’t know if I have an equivalent or what I would do if I got “notice” of tomorrow is no more… would I spend every last penny in my bank account, try to make sure I was clean and tidy, i.e. had on my best clothes…or do nothing, hoping it was like April Fools…
I suspect I should just say “it depends” 🙂
[behind with blog reading…]
I agree with you that emptying your bank account probably wouldn’t be the best idea, just in case. I read of a person who thought he was dying of AIDS, so he spent all his money having great experiences before he died. Then they came up with that multi-drug treatment so he lived, but he was broke. Who would have guessed?
