More and more people, more and more damage to planet Earth. It’s too depressing to think about.

As far as I can tell Earth is about 4.5 billion years old and life started about 3.8 billion years ago. Things will change a lot in the next hundred years with overpopulation and climate change, but even if it becomes inhospitable to humankind it’s hubris to think that it’s the end of all life. Cockroaches have been around for about 350 million years. It’s hard to believe they wouldn’t continue to thrive.

    amen.
i remember it being a really big talked about issue back when i was in my teens.
and now you’re hearing literally NOTHING about it.
and people are breeding like rabbits more than ever! it’s odd to me why it’s not talked about more in the mainstream now as a serious issue.
it’s the root of all of our problems i think. or at least the majority of them.

we need more trees, they are the lungs of the earth – but in our greed to have more large houses for more people, there is a big slash and dump model…having just witnessed the destruction over my back fence.

I hesitate to say what I think about over-population……
seems to be the poor and uneducated that do the most of it.
And people who want to work the system.

Around here there’s talk of changing zoning so that they can start building industrial and commercial on farm land.
Makes me sick to think about.

Oh so very true. I tend to be very liberal-leaning, except for on topics that are in any way related to overpopulation, which ends up influencing my views on immigration and other issues. My husband calls me a “closet Republican” (ha! not really) because I think that the US should demand that countries stop their population growth before we allow immigrants from their countries into the US (except for refugees, of course). We cannot be the escape valve for every over-populated country on earth. Sorry if I’ve offended you (I tend to offend my friends on this subject).

    • Jean says:

I’m not at all offended. I sympathize with the immigrants, but there’s more to a sane immigration policy than that.
