Computer Updates

I sympathize with the wizard. One of our Mac operating systems is 5 years old, the other 7, and Apple keeps reminding us to upgrade to the newest and greatest. We haven’t because I was using Photoshop a lot, and Adobe has moved to cloud computing, trying to force people to pay by the month or year and to work online. Our home version may not work on the latest operating system, so we’ve been sticking with what we have as long as possible.

But now Firefox, our browser, has warned us we will no longer get security updates in a few months unless we upgrade to the new operating system. Yuck! I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade on the machine I use the most, so the first step was to wean myself from Photoshop. It hasn’t been as hard as I feared, but it is taking time. And the next step is to read about the new operating system:

el capitan

That will take time too. As I said, I do sympathize with the wizard!

I have the same problem. Am forwarding a link to your post to my resident geek to find a solution.

  2. Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade! It seems I get one or two of these pesky reminders every day. I’m holding off as long as I can, mostly because I don’t want to take the time to learn a new system!

at least YOU know what all they’re talking about.
    I don’t understand a word of it.
and I will always be willing to pay someone who does.
it’s just not my thing. never was. never will be.
just as loving the way people’s minds work is not everyone’s thing.
I accept my feeble technology curiosity! LOLOL!
YOU will have it figured out in no time. you’re a whiz!

Paying someone else is a sensible strategy! I do that in lot of areas, that’s one reason we live in an apartment and why I let Andy handle take the cars in for maintenance.

my old machine – is still here, not linked to the net – but has some pluses this one doesn’t have – a bigger screen (not much, but enough) has powerpoint and a few other features – that don’t need the Net. But it’s always telling me “not connected” – and I reply “correct do you want a hand stamp or just 2 gold stars”

my laptop has Windows 7 and I refused to upgrade it.
My Mac is 10 years old and I think it has something called Leopard or maybe it was Linux or….
anyway, you REALLY read the manual?
    Wow.
If I tried to do that all the words move together and turn to gibberish.
Truly. Not kidding. I can “hear” my mind click off.

The manual is over 800 pages long so I won’t be reading the whole thing, but it is nice to have as a reference.

Andy kept getting a message telling him to upgrade to Windows 10 on his laptop, so he finally agreed to let them install the program. He tried to download it for about 8 hours but it kept hanging up, so he’s scratched that idea!
