Playing With Matches

There are men running governments who shouldn’t be allowed to play with matches.
—Will Rogers

Yep. It’s not just the threat of Trump, it’s a perennial problem.

Luckily a nuclear bomb can only be fired if a special code known only to the President’s staff matches up with the same special code stored in the submarine or other nuclear facility. The idea that you just push a button is a myth. (heaves sigh of relief)

I read an article that said during the cold war a Soviet officer in charge of firing missiles was given the order to do so because they thought America was attacking. It was false alarm and he had sense enough to figure it out. Mistakes can happen.

Even if it’s not just a button to be pushed, I think the cartoon is well done.

    Exhaling….. thank you Nick.

People change when they assume responsibility. There is nothing that says that Trump will be a dangerous POTUS, but here is an interesting piece in the WP which is sobering enough. https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2016/05/16/republicans-should-listen-to-robert-gates/?wpmm=1&wpisrc=nl_popns

the name kim jong-un comes to mind as just one.
    add that to the many…
    oh my.
    love the will rogers quote!

    • Jean says:

It’s a great quote. I already had the cartoon, and coming across the quote when I was clearing out files was serendipity.

  5. I’m trying not to let the fear run my life. I’m mostly angry with the stupidity of voters…they trash democracy.

    • Jean says:

There are two schools of thought: (1) the Trump supporters are stupid, (2) they are struggling and their needs aren’t being listened to. Name calling is easy, dealing with complex issues not so much.

  6. Cathy in NZ says:

lots to take in – the blog post and the commentators – don’t know where it will end of course, I guess the bookies are making inroads on the scale of the “win” all around the world… there is always monies to be made on certain kinds of issues
