Dinner on the Land

We had a nice picnic dinner up on the land yesterday evening. We had a good time, the only problem being poor Sammy. He has sensitive feet and did all right with boots on his front paws.

But when Kaitlin and Torben put the boots on his back paws it was another matter.

Sammy and Boots 2

He went too fast and fell on his nose, hurting his right rear leg as he hit the ground. He was good natured about it, but he couldn’t walk too far. He’s 13 1/2 years old and has neuropathy, so it’s sad to see him have to slow down.

On a happier note, Andy and I were lucky enough to see some deer and elk on the drive home.

oh nice, well of it – not the sensitive feet and age related problems…hopefully the open air will have a calming affect on everyone…

(catching up with your posts… – still don’t get notifications of replies, also noting that is happening at Tammy’s blog..)

thanks cathy! i’ll tell the captain.
I don’t know if he can fix it. it’s been that way for some time I think.
rummy mentioned it. I told him about it then. but nothing’s changed I guess.

Sammy seems to be happy in spite of his many problems. He’s a great role model. 🙂

  2. We try to do what we can for the animals we love. So sorry about Sammy’s discomfort! He sounds like a grand old cat!

  3. Ooops! Apologies to Sammy! Dog, I meant. It’s 5 a.m. in the morning, and I haven’t had my coffee!

  4. Rummuser says:

Interesting day all said and done.

  5. Ursula says:

Good old Sammy, till if you have walked in an old dog’s shoes you haven’t walked at all.

    poor sammy.
and that smile of his! and he just soldiers on. he’s such a great dog.
we could take a lesson from him.
    and he’s downright beautiful!
i’m so glad they have boots for him.

    • Jean says:

He’s not quite so beautiful now — they’ve had to shave large areas of his fur. He has a skin infection in several spots so they did a culture to see exactly what the bacteria is so they can give him the right antibiotics.

  7. Cindi says:

Oh Sammy, it’s hell getting older.
But I bet being up on the land is a wonderful tonic!
    xoxoxoxo

    • Jean says:

It would be a lot better tonic if the fire hadn’t burned all the organic matter in the soil. It was once a lot easier walking for his sensitive feet. But he’s extremely good-natured about the whole thing.
