If there is one “joy” to behold it’s when intention is one, reception is another. Leaving aside that, once upon a time, I was ushered out of a mosque (in Cairo – and at the time I didn’t realize women weren’t welcome), communication can prove a minefield in a battle you never wanted.
On the whole I do give people the benefit of the doubt, and I hope they return the favour. In my experience too many people think too quickly that you are after their hide. Not so. Never mind. Sometimes communicating with each other is like wrestling in the dark. Which is why I tend to wait for the sun to rise and, with a bit of perseverance, it’ll all come out in the wash.
Yes, it’s best not to assume we know what the other person means. As usual, it’s best to question our beliefs and get more information. Yay, curiosity!
I have lots of crossed conversations…since I recently said I wasn’t going to be around much, not go to so many group events, because I needed some time for me & to sift/sort properly – immediate reaction “so you’ve gone into hibernation” – actually that wasn’t what I meant at “ALL”!
Reminds me of the old joke
Customer: There’s a fly in my soup.
Server: Keep your voice down, or everyone’ll want one.
🙂
Thanks for making me smile in recognition, Jean.

Both the cartoon and Nick’s joke are hilarious!
Agreed!
My problem is that sometimes I haven’t even sent the message and it’s already misconstrued.
Sigh.
That’s happened to me too. Some people do like to dream things up.

Most people aren’t good listeners. They jump to conclusions and are happy thinking what they’re thinking. No need to change it, they figure.
