Telemarketers

Are you pestered by telemarketers? They phone us both day and evening, so we almost never answer the phone directly. We let our answering machine screen our calls, and mostly the company calling doesn’t even bother to leave a message. If they do it’s easy to delete it.

Is it as bad where you are?

It’s irritating. We don’t get them every day, but, still, it’s too often. If caller ID doesn’t show who it is, we don’t answer. If the caller really want to contact us, they’ll leave a message. The last important one was payroll telling me I hadn’t turned in my time sheet, but that’s been a while since I was “laid off” from my contract job about 6 weeks ago.

  2. I get these calls mostly on my cell phone, and never answer them, since I’m sure I would be paying charges just to receive them. Adding insult to injury! Most of them are callers pretending to be from the tax department, telling me about dire consequences if I don’t return the call!

I haven’t given my cell phone number out to people, and Andy can’t reach me from the land. So I delete any calls without listening to them. I don’t get nearly as many as I do on our land line. And, yes, a lot of those are from the “IRS”. 🙂

that rachel lady calls me. and I often get a “free cruise” call.
and lately I have somebody who says she’s RETURNING my call about a back brace!!!!
I never made that call! never even looked one up on the internet.
    of course they’re all automated.
it’s just the curse of our modern society now.

It’s so bad it’s funny. Rachel used to call a lot, but I haven’t heard from her in a long time now. She’s one reason I burst out laughing at the cartoon. 😀

They mostly call during dinner-hour-rush…of course, they have no idea that I ate dinner earlier and now enjoying my evening.

Recently it has been an automated woman caller- I still have no idea what she is saying – as I smartly drop the phone.

I get power companies, phone companies, local carpet cleaning, sometimes a service like hearing aids.

I usually don’t say anything, just hang up!

I rarely get any left on the answer phone…probably because I’ve an automated American man telling them “no body is home right now…” (he came with my phone, and I’ve found it useful to have this generic manly voice…)

We no longer have a landline so don’t get calls anymore from Rachel but I broke into laughter before I even finished reading it. Then again when I tried to read it to Dave and he started laughing before I could finish as well. I think everyone “knows” Rachel. My cell phone tells me if the person calling is in my contacts list; if not I don’t answer. It’s election season and politicians are exempt from the Do Not Call Registry which does not mean I want them to take my time.

    • Jean says:

I haven’t got any political calls for this election yet. But I’m sure they will come.

I’m tickled that we weren’t the only ones who knew Rachel. 🙂

  6. Rummuser says:

No, we have a DND (Do Not Disturb) option available with the service providers and it is quite effective. The odd caller does however get through getting details of phone numbers from other sources and I inevitably have fun with them! The landline however is more susceptible.

  7. Looney says:

Unless it is a known caller, all calls go to voice mail. 90% of the callers won’t leave messages. That leaves a dozen or so messages per day to go through to see if there was something worth responding to.
