I agree with Snoopy! It’s been a glorious fall here — ideal timing for thinking about the greenhouse Kaitlin and Torben would like to build. We went up one morning with our architects and an engineer to test the soundness of the walls of the old greenhouse/walled garden.
The original idea was to use that as the start of the new greenhouse, but it looks as if building a new building closer to the house makes more sense. Andy and I went up two more afternoons to decide on the best site if we go that route. Present plans are we will go up with the architect and contractor next Thursday to get an estimate of how much the site work would cost — i.e. to see if the idea is affordable.
Hopefully it will be feasible and we can proceed with plans. But if not, it’s been nice making those extra trips in our favorite time of year.
My best wishes that you can proceed with the plans.
Thank you.
It’s a good time of year to have an excuse to go driving. Our leaves are near peak color right now. We just need some sunshine on them. 🙂
I hope the sun comes out for you. The leaves are past their peak now, even though they changed colors late.
what do the new trees in your forest property looking like?
of course I’m in the other end of the spectrum, new leaves, lots of trees covered in blossoms – as Spring moves into Summer. I still think it’s not exactly warm yet, and I know that a really nice warm/sunny day doesn’t mean there will be cold/wet break here…
Which do you like better? Spring or Autumn?
Autumn is more predictable – there isn’t this “switch slipping flipping” – you know that Winter is coming, the leaves all seem to color at one point and drop…
Spring often new leaves, blossoms rush to be here, but then some stiff cold breezes, the wintery kind strip the trees…
Today is nice indoors, I can see the sun – but when I step outdoors there is a chill in the wind…a lite breeze but not warm. Not quite Summer warmth…
I think it’s a great idea, and I hope it’s one that will be doable.
Fingers crossed. We will let you know. 🙂
It’s a great autumn here too. Not just orange and brown leaves but lots of bright red ones as well. Good luck with the new greenhouse.
I’m glad you’re getting some color too. 🙂
Thanks for the good wishes.
why is the green house so far away? at least it looks that way in the shot!
maybe it’s not that far after all.
and i’m with snoopy!
except…
we no longer have autumn here. our temps are still just like high summer.
in the 80’s and sometimes 90’s.
no leaves turning. there has been no rain so the leaves have burned up turned brown and are gradually just blowing off. sad in the extreme.
it has been this way for about three consecutive years now. gets it’s our new norm. no autumn.
BUT
the silver lining is…
at least at night it cools down into the 50’s or 60’s and I can have my windows wide open! heavenly sleeping.
The old greenhouse was more a walled garden with a glass roof. It was placed there because that was where we had a big garden until the animals started eating almost everything. They don’t understand sharing. 🙂 That area had soil, unlike the rocky ridge where we have the house and shed.
I forgot to say I’m sorry your daytime temperatures are so high, but at least it cools off at night. I agree, being able to open our windows is heavenly.
