Speaking of Being Adaptable…

I received this email from Kaitlin yesterday:

It is a snowy day so we were going to set up tree, etc this afternoon. Then we starting thinking about Tempi’s philosophy of life, namely: everything is hers, and therefore rightly belongs in her mouth.

So, well, we got a bit more decoration for the front outside and will leave inside decorations to the windowsill above the kitchen sink. Will give her a challenge to see if she can get up there.

In her latest post Tempi shows us a recent adventure with books.

tempi-1

Fortunately (1) we don’t have to be perfect to be lovable, and (2) humans are adaptable.

I’d rephrase that ever so slightly: Your mother will love you. Despite of it. Humans may muster the will to adapt to circumstances.

Dogs? You chew my books, my shoes, my anything and I will swap you for a cat. Cats may bring home half dead prey because they can’t “buy” you a present but not in a million years will they destroy that which is beloved to you, like, say a first edition of G B Shaw’s essays, ca 1932.

So, my dear Jean (and Kaitlin), as much as it pains me to point out the obvious: Dogs (not all of them) are destroyers. Attention seekers. Cats? I don’t know. They just stretch and yawn, in the face of the ennui of it all.

a puppy for Christmas! tell kaitlin she is being wise!
I remember the first year I had sara’s first Christmas. the decorations were fascinating to her. and apparently delicious.
she woke me one weekend with bright RED all over her mouth and paws.
I thought she was bleeding!!! OH NO!
turns out she had ‘eaten’ some faux holly berries in my ‘natural looking’ dΓ©cor for the tree.

I hope that you read my comments on Katilin’s blog.

I have much the situation as they do with Tempi.
    Jimmy Chew.
And yes, it helps that they are both adorable.

    I disagree about cats.
(I have both cats and dogs)
and my cats have destroyed a lot of things.
They have taken Christmas ornaments off the tree in the past and then lobbed them down the stairs into a shattered mess at the bottom.
Then they climbed the tree, toppling it over.
They have also broken vases and various ceramic objects.
I also can never have fresh flowers in the house.
But my cats are adorable too, so I just deal with it.
