Do you remember the above cartoon? This PocketFinder ad reminded me of it:
In fact most personal trackers like the PocketFinder rely on cellular service, which as we’ve said is a problem up on the land. So when our Whistle pet tracker came last week, I gave it a good workout. It could only locate Andy a few times, and, presumably because of the time lag, his location wasn’t accurate. This picture shows where the Whistle says he was at 12:17 p.m. and where he actually was (at the house).
It’s about a mile off as the crow flies because I didn’t receive the information until Andy had driven from the Whistle spot up to the house.
Anyway, I learned a lot, and the Whistle telephone support was impressive. One representative said I could easily send it back and get a refund, but I like the company and we hadn’t expected it to work well when we ordered it. (It was worth trying just in case.) Instead after we disconnect the tracker from their system I will advertise it on our local Freecycle so someone down here in town can use it. That seems like a win-win solution, and I’m happy we did it.
when you mentioned it the other day I was thinking it was a computer technology problem!
too bad it didn’t work better. but I’m glad their company sounds fair and even helpful. that’s always encouraging.
and the cartoon…
had me laugh right out loud once again! LOL!!!
I love that cartoon, too! 🙂
The cartoon is very funny and who knows, not too far in the future such things may indeed happen!
I wouldn’t be surprised. Technology is changing fast.
these trackers are getting more and more sophisticated for sure…even if Andy was on the wrong side of the gully…
The big problem up there is lack of phone reception. The device works all right here in town.
I use one to keep track of my wife. It is amazing how someone can get lost in a store.
I can understand that. I can also understand how it would be hard to find someone if the store was crowded. Which tracker do you use?
The Friend Finder app on the iPhone.
Thanks. If we ever get good cellphone reception we will try that.
So Andy needs the Pocket Finder then.
Right?
I mean if it works in the Grabd Canyon…,
Lol!
xoxo
No, it won’t work up in our mountains because we don’t have good cellphone reception. We bought the Whistle because it was an easy way to check. We weren’t holding our breath.
Verizon, what we have, is better than AT&T here, and the PocketFinder was using AT&T. They’ve just switched to something called Orange, which I’m guessing will be even worse. I wouldn’t believe everything they say. 🙂
Wasn’t the traditional way of doing friend tracking in your mountains to use smoke signals?
possibly but the bears have kept abreast of modern technology 🙂
