Great Quote

I came across a great quote the other day.

When life is sweet, say thank you and celebrate.
When life is bitter, say thank you and grow.

I love it! It reminds me of my favorite prayer when life gets challenging,

Thank You, Lord, for the opportunity. I sure hope you know what you’re doing!

When life is bitter, I’m not inclined to say thanks, but yes, you often learn something useful from the experience. If nothing else, you learn to pick yourself up, dust yourself down, and carry on regardless.

Two empowering questions are “What’s the opportunity here?” and “How can I learn and grow from this.” They work fine even if the gratitude comes later.

My all time favourite prayer is the Serenity Prayer.

    love that first quote.
    now.
    to live it!

The second one appeals to me, too, because being able to laugh at yourself and your situations makes life easier. I am grateful Dave and I have similar senses of humor.

both quotes have their merits but I’m not sure I fall into line – right at the time – on either of them…often not ever, it the experience is so bitter that any little reminder sets me off!

one of things, I liked when I shifted was that a certain ex-person (not b/f) wouldn’t find me quickly – BUT I didn’t change my phone number…and finally he called me up… (he wasn’t pleased I had shifted, but now he knows where I am, apparently I’m closer to his home -true)

but then again recently I realised that my new landline service has a “caller ID” system on it – so I will able to let it go straight to answerphone if I see his number!!!!!

he is a very bitter reminder of doing something that seemed like a good idea at the time – and then it went “bad, bad, bad” – in some ways my fault…

    • Jean says:

I’m sorry the experience was so bad, and that he knows where you are. But good for caller ID! We don’t have caller ID, but we get so many telemarketing calls that we have them go straight to the answering machine after two rings. If someone we know tries to leave a message we pick up. It’s a lot more peaceful around here now. 🙂

How very apt to my life situation at the moment. I’m struggling with a hugely difficult situation but I am trying to use the experience to learn and grow. It’s the only thing to do, really. I want to be better, not bitter.

  7. I like Maria’s word play: be better, not bitter. Goes beautifully with the quote!

    I like Maria’s quote too!
    Better not bitter!
    🙂

  9. A good reminder for me today! Thanks!! ?
