Andy usually emails our income taxes (federal and state) the very last day, but this year I suggested we just send them in and know that they were done. We wouldn’t have to think about them any more.
So much for that idea. Today we received a corrected 1099 form from Vanguard and have to file amended forms. The amount on the 1099 is only about $12 —it won’t make much difference in the tax we owe and it will be easy enough to make the change in TurboTax. But we will have to mail the amended forms instead of sending them by email, which is a nuisance. And it will cost the government more than it will get to process the changes.
My guess is next year we will go back to waiting until the last minute to send the forms, even if we do the taxes early. Sometimes it pays to procrastinate.
LOL and by next year you’ll probably either not doing anything or filling out a zillion new forms 🙂
also I’m not sure if any of the replies are coming through…on your new system – will keep an eye out for them
all is coming through – comments as well…
Thanks for the feedback. 🙂
With the recently announced budget, being a senior citizen my income falls below the bottom limit for income tax and I may not have to file a return this year. I will however go by the advice of my CA, the local equivalent to your CPA.
That should make things even easier for you. That’s nice.
