definitely – I was in a bus yesterday and as were stopped at some traffic lights, I looked out of the window – and within a few seconds 2 guys walked past one another talking to that slab of plastic and both seemed to be looking about, if trying to pin point where someone else was – as if saying “hi, I’m on the corner of xyz next to the Asian food store” – I just thought it would have been funny if they had been waiting for one another…but they walked off in opposite directions!
the other thing that annoys me is “head phones” usually attached to plastic slab! Some people seem to be able to hear through them, whilst other have to flip them off!
I have just returned from a seminar where I was part of the faculty. I had to stop my lecture on four separate occasions to request the audience to put away their mobile phones as I could see mid level managers getting and responding to text messages on their hand sets. If such so called mature people do this, what to say about the hoi polloi?
sadly true!
The cartoon was right on, though!

I ‘m surprised they had to be reminded. Often the rule is no phones in the classroom. Sigh!
