But you know the saddest thing, because I’m the President of the United States I am not supposed to be involved with the Justice Department. I am not supposed to be involved with the FBI. I’m not supposed to be doing the kinds of things that I would love to be doing. And I’m very frustrated by it.
—Donald J. Trump to Larry O’Connor
It makes me wonder when they stopped teaching civics classes about the Constitutional separation of powers, designed to prevent tyranny. Trump isn’t that much younger than I am.

Thanks for the links. I’ve never found him that puzzling. His narcissism plus his pugnaciousness is all the explanation we need.
About his intelligence — the late night comedians are having a field day. They don’t tell, they show — clips of him in action. It’s really bad sometimes.
one would think when auditioning for a role you might study the play.
sigh.
It wasn’t needed to get elected, and he’s getting all the adulation he wants on his Asia tour, so why bother? He was hired to tear things down, not to preserve the system.
There is a lot of variability in the quality of the teaching and the quality of the students across this country. I agree with you regarding Trump’s understanding of the constitution, but would go further and claim that the inability to understand the constitution or process the concept of “rule of law” goes far beyond Trump and would include a significant number of teachers, professors and judges, while modern Ethics teaching is that the constitution and “rule of law” are a product of white racism and to be ignored whenever it conflicts with intentions.
I think most people believe morals/friends/family are more important than the rule of law. But Trump thinking he could be an autocrat was especially uninformed.
Speaking of judges: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/11/us/politics/trump-judiciary-appeals-courts-conservatives.html?partner=rss&emc=rss&_r=0
The battle over the judiciary is inevitable. Obama put in the most ideologically driven judges he could, and Trump is doing the same, with the caveat that leftists and conservatives have drastically different notions of how to process human language, rules and the constitution.
That’s one area where Trump is making big changes. He’s also choosing young judges so they will have an impact for years and years.
Just for some historical context, the infamous Dred Scott decision (1857) was made by the supreme court as a 7 to 2 decision. The 7 were Democrats, and the 2 were Republicans. It was eventually overturned by the civil war. The notion that judges should be the guardians of partisan ideology goes back a long way.
He just wants his finger in every pie so he can tell everyone, without exception, what to do. He hates to think there are public bodies he has absolutely no control over.
He would love to have absolute power and envies Xi, Putin, and Duterte.
some fabulous comments here, thanks…
