I had several heart warming moments this morning. One was:
After getting back to the hall from a house fire last Saturday in 4’s district (I was literally in the shower), Engine 6 was dispatched to a car incident on Highway 58. The incident included the driver — a pregnant mother — and her three small children who were in the back seat. The mother was hysterical because she was having abdominal and back pain. The children ranged in age from 7 years to 12 months. Both big girls were fine, but the baby was screaming hysterically too. So I took her out of her car seat and did a quick physical exam to make sure she was okay. She immediately laid her head on my shoulder. Shortly after that I decided that my guys had the scene under control, so I decided to sit and take a break with my new friend. She immediately fell asleep in my arms. Mom was transported and Engine 6 personnel stayed on scene with the children until they were turned over to family members. It’s moments like this, that I am reminded, this is why I do the job.

Another was Kaitlin saying the neighborhood kids were concerned about Sammy’s passing, and one little girl gave Tempi one of her stuffed toys. She chose it because it’s color was the closest to Sammy’s. And a little boy said Tempi could come and play with his dogs if she was sad. How sweet were they?
I needed these heart warming moments of beautiful human kindness.
and especially of the ones in Sammy’s and Tempi’s neighborhood by the children. their thoughtfulness is wonderful. xo
Yes, I was touched by it too.
Thank you for both of these stories.
Really needed to read something good.
And that little girl choosing which toy by the color?
Iām trying not to cry!
xo
Wasn’t that sweet?! Kaitlin sent two pictures of Tempi snuggling with the toy. I’ll show them in tomorrow’s post.

Yes, that fireman was so impressive. Cuddling babies in addition to fighting fires, dealing with emergencies.
marvellous stories both remind us about “community” – thanks
I’m glad you liked them too. š
When such things happen, one goes all soft inside and one’s faith in humanity gets reinforced.
Yes! We need more stories like this.
We give far too much importance to news stories which involve tragedy and human pain. This is so refreshing! Thanks, CM!
I agree!
