We had over 1.4″ of rain on the land between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning (yesterday). How cool is that!
We also had a nice rain down here yesterday afternoon, but the National Weather Service predicted that last week. How did they know? Yesterday was the start of the state fair, and, as they wrote, it always rains the first day of the fair. You can’t say the weather is always unpredictable.

It was autumn, and the Indians on the remote reservation
asked their new Chief if the winter was going to be cold
or mild. Since he was an Indian Chief in a modern
society, he had never been taught the old secrets.
When he looked at the sky, he couldn’t tell what the weather
was going to be. Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he
replied to his tribe that the winter was indeed going to
be cold and that the members of the village should collect
firewood to be prepared.
Also, being a practical leader, after several days he got
an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National
Weather Service and asked, “Is the coming winter going to
be cold?”
“It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold
indeed,” the meteorologist at the weather service
responded. So the Chief went back to his people and told
them to collect even more wood in order to be prepared.
A week later, he called the National Weather Service
again. “Is it going to be a very cold winter?”
“Yes,” the man at National Weather Service again replied,
“it’s definitely going to be a very cold winter.” The
Chief again went back to his people and ordered them to
collect every scrap of wood they could find.
Two weeks later, he called the National Weather Service
again. “Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going
to be very cold?”
“Absolutely,” the man replied. “It’s going to be one of
the coldest winters ever.”
“How can you be so sure?” the Chief asked.
The weatherman replied, “The Indians are collecting wood
like crazy.”
oh Rummy! LOLOL.
Yes, I’ve heard that story and it’s very appropriate here. Thanks for sharing it. 🙂
Another relevant cartoon is a fellow admiring the massive amount of firewood he has cut and stacked for winter. Two rabbits are watching and one says to the other, “That’s a sure sign it’s going to be a mild winter.”
Glad you rec’d some rain. We could surely use some.
Especially appreciated the Indian tale from Rummuser — being quite familiar with Newark, Ohio and having visited the historical Indian mounds there so many puzzled about for many years.
Synchronicity — I’ve just finished watching the Great Courses DVDs on Exploring the Roots of Religion and one lecture was devoted to the Hopewell mound builders.
It also never rains for the Aquatennial Parade in Minneapolis. Maybe because they hold it at a time least likely to rain here?
Most likely they are smart enough to do that. 🙂
yesterday (Sat) here in Auckland it was a hot day – I noted on the weather app that “mid arvo” it was over 17-C – it was certainly warm and sunny. If I had been better than I currently am, I may have gone out…I lapped up the sun inside; I had all the windows open to air out the pad…
Nice weather helps a lot! I’m glad you could open the windows and enjoy the sun.
So glad you got some rain! We did too, and every plant around here is happy! I hadn’t heard the story contributed by Rummuser, so had a good laugh. Great way to start a weekend!
🙂
