The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
—Willie Nelson
I cheerfully admit, I’m a second mouse. I don’t like to be the first to try new technology or the latest and greatest drug the medical profession sometimes pushes. I prefer to wait to hear about other people’s experiences and the problems they encounter — then if I decide to buy at least I have an idea of what I’m getting into.
What about you?

We try not to buy new technology but sometimes the call is too loud. It took us three days to buy a Mac computer when they first came out. But, other than software upgrades I don’t think we’ve bought anything really new since then.
Our MacPro is 10 years old now and can’t upgrade to the latest operating system. We did upgrade from Snow Leopard to El Capitan a few months ago, which means our antivirus and Firefox upgrades now keep us protected, but sooner or later obsolescence hits us all. 🙁
I’m like you, I’ll wait to see what other people think before I jump in and buy
If we can it’s a good idea to learn from other people’s experiences.
like you. have never been the first to feel I “need” or to want something that badly. and to stand in line in the dark til the doors open… ??? oh good grief.
On the other hand, if it makes the people who do it happy, then I support them even if it’s not for me. This poor old world needs all the joy it can get.
I shuffle between the two, sometimes I want to be on the cutting edge of something, and sometimes I prefer to follow in someone else’s footsteps. I guess it depends on the nature of the challenge!
I agree with that. It depends on whether there is any danger involved — which there can be with potent drugs. Then it’s doing research and trying to weigh the costs and benefits.
With new technology it’s more how will it fit into my life? Will it integrate well or keep me from doing things that would be more rewarding?
In what areas do you like to be on the cutting edge?
I’m the same. I’m always suspicious of something that’s brand-new and hyped from the rooftops. Six months down the line, it might not be so attractive. Like you, I prefer to see how many people use it and whether they have problems. And I never use obscure websites I’ve never heard of, I always go for ones with an established reputation.
It pays to be a bit careful. My virus scan program warns me about suspicious sites, which I appreciate. And we’re old enough now to understand about hype. 🙂 The advertisement is not the product, so let’s wait for some real feedback.
