Joe and his crew didn’t come up Monday, but yesterday they started building the heat-storing back wall. They worked two hours after their normal quitting time so made good progress.
First they laid the insulating blocks to keep heat from the wall from leaking into the foundation:
Then they started building the wall.
The idea is the wall will absorb energy from the sun, then release it back into the greenhouse. Eventually there will be insulation and another wall in the back to minimize the heat loss to the outside and maximize the heat going into the greenhouse. (It will be a little more complicated than that, but we will talk about it when the time comes.)

This should be the best built greenhouse ever when they are done.
Fingers crossed. Things can always go wrong.
Their first crop of tomatoes will be worth $1,000 a pound. LOL What an interesting project. I used to work at a flower shop that was attached to 4 acres of greenhouses so following this higher tech building is interesting.
It’s definitely expensive entertainment. 😀
Well, this is fun to watch take shape…laughing at Misadventures comment about $1000 a pound. But it really does seem like it is being built to last…I hope you get to enjoy it many years.
Thank you. 🙂
That is all beyond what we can understand, but we sure are seeing lots of progress being made. Hard work too.
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
Hopefully it will make more sense as it gets further along. The fellows are definitely working hard — it’s a good crew.
great to see your photos Andy, of the progress of the green house…thanks for taking the time to be on hand. Hope this isn’t interfering with your other “up on the land jobs” although I you could say it’s a new string to your bow: chief photographer for all of us who are not beside you daily…
I will pass it on to Andy. 🙂
He and I have an agreement — I don’t care how much money he spends as long as (1) he is happy and (2) he brings home pictures once in a while. It’s a win-win arrangement. 😀
Holy Mackerel! You’re already way over my head.
Sorry about that. It’s going to get a bit more complicated. 😀
Hopefully it works the way it’s supposed to.
ditto Catherine’s comment. and your reply is priceless! LOL.
actually…
it’s the “old” way. quality and care given in the making = good results.
look at all the old wonderful buildings in Europe.
as opposed to our 6 week wonders over here! kudos to you both! xo
Thank you. Yes, we like sturdy buildings! We’re building it for Kaitlin and Torben as well as ourselves.
