Interesting Email

I received a message from Experian’s identity protection service this morning. It said

Action requested: Please review your identity alerts

I went directly to my account to make sure the message wasn’t a phishing attempt, and sure enough, Experian thought it found something. It said the site MyHeritge.com (I don’t remember ever using it, but that doesn’t prove anything) was hacked and my email address was taken.

So I went to the site and it said:

So I checked with Firefox and it said:

I already knew about them, so I didn’t have to do anything.

It wasn’t a waste of my time, though, because Firefox told me about Firefox Send:

Firefox Send with file encryption and password protection lets you send files (1GB to 2.5GB) safely and securely. When you upload a file, Firefox Send generates a link you can share with your recipient. You also have the option to set a password and change the expiration settings for extra security. Your files are not saved to the cloud — they belong only to you.

I tested it on few files and it’s easy to use. It solves the problem of the email size limit on files, and it is also more secure than email if one cares about that. So thanks to Firefox the message from Experian wasn’t a waste of time at all. Thank you, Firefox!

  1. so it’s all good then…I don’t think I could cope if this happened to me…but then again, it might be alright.

I don’t worry if they just get my email address. I had more sensitive information stolen a couple of years ago, that’s why I subscribe to the identity theft service. So far nothing bad has happened.

That’s good that nothing was compromised and all is good. I don’t immediately panic when I get things like that any more. There are so many fake things floating around out there. It is better to be safe than sorry though

I figured it was worth the time to look, but I wasn’t going to waste energy worrying about it. I was pleased to learn I can send big files easily, so it was worth my time.

I must be in a grumpy “what a bother” mode. sometimes it’s all too much to worry about and keep track of. but I’m glad you feel secure and that it’s safe and worked out well. I had such a time there with the Peanut and about two years of hackings and upheavals of one kind or another… the scam that was international and would have cost me my computer if I’d believed them (it was also security driven) … that’s when I bought the security coverage by the Geek Squad at Best Buy. I’ve been pleased so far and I’ve had it for two years now. they send me their updates and reviews and are very thorough.
I guess if anything really bad happened now I’m not sure what I would do. we can be addicted to this thing and not even realize it!

I am fond of saying “Computers were invented to make our lives simpler” when something like this occurs. Or the computers at my doctors’ offices are running slowly. But what my mind is saying is “grrrrrrrrr”!

    • Jean says:

I don’t figure computers make life more simple, but they do give me access to an amazing amount of knowledge. And mostly I have a good attitude when things get messy. I may not want to spend a lot of time figuring things out, but I know if I do l’ll learn a lot and it will be good practice in problem solving and mood management.

I sure get weary of things like this. I always tell Roger if people put that much energy into something good, just imagine what could be accomplished.

I don’t know how I missed this…I am just positive I checked the site last night. But maybe I just thought I did.

If I were Director of the Universe I wouldn’t let things like this happen, but unfortunately no one has offered me the job. 😀
